Many people are sceptical of psychometric profiles and feel that as a recruitment tool it is over rated.
This was also the view I held until I completed a profile myself. The results were an eye-opener and I became so interested that I went on a course run by one of the top companies to find out more and to become an assessor.
Over many years I have used profiles both for my own purposes and for clients and I am now convinced of their worth. In fact there have been occasions when I have been recruiting for my own company and chosen to ignore the profile results, on each occasion it has been a costly mistake.
Every job has specific skills that are important to it and often it is these skills that are hardest to assess in a conventional interview situation. In the marketing and sales environment it is often the difference between an account manager and a new business manager or put another way the difference between the hunter and the farmer, if you appoint a hunter to the role of account handler and a farmer the role of new business then you will quickly find yourself pushing water up hill.
Profiles are used when recruitment, appraisals and management development and can help to produce more motivated enthusiastic, effective and productive staff.
